Description

Restoration of the Chiers where it flows through Longwy is a major operation since it aims to uncover several hundred metres of a totally canalised river in the very heart of the town. The constraints imposed by the urban milieu are considerable, and the sociological and landscaping issues extremely ambitious, given that the entire urban environment of the town centre must be redesigned in order to transform the river into a natural, living space that is fully integrated into the urban fabric. Operations to uncover a river are still a rarity in France, and, in a national context, this project can truly be considered as a ground-breaking pilot scheme. ARTELIA has assembled a multidisciplinary team to deal with the wide range of challenges engendered with respect to hydraulics, geotechnical and civil engineering, town planning and communications.
